Anguilla

Anguilla A haven of luxury and tranquility, Anguilla sits in the Northern Caribbean, east of Puerto Rico. A gorgeous tiny island which is just 16 miles long and 3 miles wide, what makes Anguilla so special is the serenity that it offers. The perfect escape for those who want nothing but the best on their vacation, this little West Indian island is a welcome respite from the chaos of most touristy places in the region.

An Overseas British Territory and the most northern of the British Leeward Islands, Anguilla is often referred to as one of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets. A rapidly growing playground for the rich and famous of the world, this island is now known for its upmarket villas and expensive resorts. However, don’t let this stop you if you are traveling on a budget, as Anguilla still retains much of its old backwater charm, with a number of informal and moderately priced hotels and guesthouses. Even today, goats and cattle still roam the streets which play host to various eye-catching stalls selling food or vending various colorful souvenirs.

While the culture here is fascinating, perhaps one of the biggest draws of Anguilla is the fact that this small island is home to some 33 beaches, each one more superb than the other. Pristine and exotic, these white sand beaches are lined with lush palm trees and are bathed by warm turquoise blue waters filled with a plethora of marine life.

An idyllic tropical island escape, there is plenty to do here besides lounging back and taking in the sun. You can enjoy a wealth of activities ranging from swimming, diving, snorkeling and sailing to deep-sea fishing, glass bottom boat rides, paddle boating, windsurfing, hiking, horseback riding, bird watching and biking. For the adventurous there is parasailing and exploring shipwrecks on the ocean floor, while for those who want some peace and quiet, there are a number of fine art galleries and museums in town, as well as many spas and wellness centers. If you want a more private vacation, you can always charter a boat to the many outlying islands to have a romantic rendezvous.

The perfect retreat whether you are traveling by yourself, with your family or with your partner, Anguilla is an incredible getaway for tourists looking for something different. Easy to reach with air services from Puerto Rico, Sint Maarten and Antigua, it is key to remember that there are no direct mainland North American flights to Anguilla.

A great vacation destination, Anguilla island is also known for its excellent food and restaurants. With some of the finest eateries in the West Indies situated here, Anguilla is a food lover’s delight. The restaurants here provide some of the most exquisite beach/sunset views, offering a dining experience like no other. Add this to the above mentioned attributes of the island and you will find yourself having a truly unique vacation, unlike anything you’ve ever had before!
