Aruba

Aruba Bon Bini! Welcome to amazing Aruba, where the sun shines nearly every day of the year and the beaches are pristine and gorgeous. Sitting just off the coast of Venezuela, and measuring only 30 km in length and 9 km in breadth, Aruba is a tourist paradise. Charming and inviting, this tiny island is one of the most toured in the Caribbean and makes for the perfect place to spend just a day or as long as you like.

Forming part of the ABC group of islands, Aruba lies roughly 29 km from Venezuela and is one of the Lesser Antilles Islands. Its closest neighbor is Curacao, some 42 miles away. For such a small island, Aruba has an incredible diversity of landscapes. Popular with those who simply want to kickback and relax on its beautiful beaches, as well as those who want to enjoy some wonderful diving and snorkeling, this island has it all. Visit the capital Oranjestad, a compact and quaint town or for those who like roughing it out a bit, the island’s eastern coast along with the town of San Nicolas to the south, have some dramatic cliffs and marvelous vistas.

Thought to have been inhabited some 4,000 years ago, Aruba was first claimed by the Spanish in 1499. The Dutch then laid claim to this island in 1636. There was a brief period where the British took over in the early part of the 19th century. However, by and large, Aruba has remained under Dutch control, although in 1986 it was given the status of an autonomous entity by the Government of the Netherlands.

What makes touring here so special and what keeps the tourists coming back to Aruba is that this island offers its own wonderful and unique blend of hospitality, which has led it to be labeled “The Happy Island”. Unwind here by chilling out on the many gorgeous beaches sipping your rum, or tour the intriguing Arikok National Wildlife Park with its abandoned gold mines amid a ‘deserted’ backdrop of cacti and divi-divi trees. The people here are friendly and getting around Aruba is easy enough. Most of the hotels and resorts lie in the northwest of the island near and in Oranjestad, offering some lush panoramas and excellent beaches.

For those who like to play after the sun sets, there is plenty to do in Aruba after nightfall. Try your luck at the many casinos on the island or enjoy a Las Vegas-styled show. With bars and clubs abound, the nightlife here is superb along with some incredible dining opportunities, as well as superb dinner and party cruises. Whatever you choose to do in Aruba just know this; here you simply cannot and will not be disappointed!
