Diving in the Bahamas

Diving in the Bahama With more than 29 dive destinations and over 1000 dive sites, the Bahamas today is regarded as one of the best places to go diving in the region. Offering a truly fantastic diving experience for all who come here, this tiny Caribbean nation is the perfect place for an extraordinary underwater adventure. Its unique marine landscape and astonishing underwater visibility make it perfect for divers of all ages.

Home to the world’s longest underwater cave system, diving in the Bahamas can be a lot of fun. Here you can swim up close and personal with sharks and dolphins, explore blue holes and come across many amazing shipwrecks on the ocean floor. With countless untouched coral reefs, huge wall drop offs and a plethora of vibrant tropical fish, the Bahamas can provide divers with some incredibly breathtaking dives.

From novices and beginners to experts, the Bahamas has dive destinations for all those who visit here. If you don’t know how to dive, that’s not a problem. With a huge array of diving schools and professional dive companies, diving in the Bahamas could not be easier. You can obtain PADI or NAUI dive certifications from anywhere on the islands. And with so many dive destinations you don’t have to worry about missing out on anything either, as most locations are pristine and uncrowded.

One of the best places to go diving in the Bahamas has to be Andros Island. Boasting one of the world’s largest barrier reefs, diving here is superb with a wealth of marine and coral life. You can find a huge number of blue holes here that you can explore as well as many underwater caves, where ancient stalagmites and stalactites can be found. Off the New Providence coast you can get to see many famous underwater locations used in many James Bond movies as well as in Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Off Abacos Island are the wonderful Fowl Cay Reef and Sandy Cay Reef filled with abundant marine life including sea turtles, dolphins, eels and rays. Grand Bahama, Eleuthera, Exuma and San Salvador also have a number of excellent diving zones.

If you are the adventurous type, try out some night diving as well. However, this is for experience divers only. Catch a glimpse of the ocean with the help of a torch light to reveal beautiful schools of fish peacefully swimming along.
