Things to do in the Bahamas
The Bahamas is an almost utopian paradise with its near perfect weather,
incredible beaches and plethora of activities to enjoy. Here the young
and old, adults and kids alike, can find a profusion of things to
do and see. There are literally hundreds of activities for you to
choose from, both on land as well as in the water. Take a historical
tour of the islands that Christopher Columbus found on his voyage
while discovering the ‘new world’, or for a more active
holiday, indulge in the wide variety of watersports found here. The
ideal vacation destination for families as well as couples, the Bahamas
is a great place for summer fun!
A ‘must do’ activity while here has to be snorkeling
or scuba diving. With some of the best underwater visibility on
the planet and the third longest barrier reef in the world, diving
in the Bahamas is an experience to remember. Here you can encounter
sharks, play with the dolphins, swim with hundreds of brightly colored
tropical fish and explore the many shipwrecks that sit on the ocean
floor. With 29 dive destinations as well as the longest underwater
cave system in the world, diving here is a true joy.
Sportsfishing is also another popular activity here, with many schools
of big game fish found in vast numbers just off the coast. Wahoo,
Tuna, Snapper, Barracuda and Grouper are just some of the many fish
species found in the Bahamas. Try your luck fishing on Bimini, the
world’s Big-Game Fishing capital, or for a more challenging
task, try bonefishing just off the Andros Coast.
Some other popular watersports in the Bahamas include; sailing, jet
skiing, sea kayaking, banana boating, parasailing and windsurfing.
For the landlubber, there is plenty to do on the roughly 700 islands
and countless cays that make up the Bahamas. Touring historic sites
and monuments and visiting art galleries and churches are great
ways to absorb the rich culture and history of this island nation in the Caribbean.
For a modern day view of how regular Bahamians go about their every
day life, a visit to the local markets can be full of fun and adventure.
The national parks here are worth a visit and offer some good hiking,
horseback riding and bird watching opportunities. If you’re
a busy business executive or just want to escape the holiday crowds,
the tennis and golfing facilities in the Bahamas are world class
as well.
At night after the sunsets some activities to enjoy include trying
out the excellent dining cuisine as well as visiting the many night
clubs and discos to wind down after a day of fun in the sun. You
can also try your luck gambling in the many casinos in Nassau and
Freeport as well.
