Barbados

Barbados With some of the most picturesque beaches in the world, the tiny island of Barbados is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Eastern Caribbean. Measuring just 432 sq km in size, this island nation is 21 miles long and 14 miles wide at its broadest point. A fairly flat coral isle, the highest point on Barbados is Mount Hillaby, which sits some 1,116 feet above sea level.

Relatively isolated from the rest of the Caribbean islands, Barbados lies roughly 160 km east of its nearest neighbor. Considered part of the Lesser Antilles, this island is situated approximately 435 km north east of Venezuela, with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Lucia to its west. A rapidly growing developing country, Barbados today has some of the highest literacy and living standards in the world. An independent nation within the British Commonwealth, the Queen is the head of state here.

What makes Barbados so special is its many wonderful historical, natural and cultural attractions. With strong British colonial influences, this island offers globetrotting tourists much to see and do. On the western coast you can find some of the most gorgeous beaches in the region, while to the east, strong trade winds and a rocky shoreline dominate. The western end of Barbados is wonderful for scuba diving and snorkeling, with many fabulous resorts, hotels and accommodations found here. While along the eastern coast, surfing is very popular. Central Barbados offers some great cultural and historical sights, with the island’s most famous landmark Harrison’s Cave found here.

An almost perfect year round climate with a gentle sea breeze, the weather on Barbados is terrific. Couple this with friendly natives and excellent accommodations, and Barbados makes for a wonderful getaway. A naturally charming destination that’s fun yet modern and sophisticated, vacationing in the Barbados is the ultimate holiday for those looking to have some fun in this uniquely calypso paradise.
