Places to see in Cuba

Being the largest country in the Caribbean, Cuba offers visitors a plethora of sights to see and places to enjoy. Start of your tour of Cuba in the capital Havana, the biggest city in Cuba as well as in the region. The political, economic and cultural hub of the country, you will find plenty of places to see out here. Also located in Havana is Habana Vieja, a World Heritage Site and one of the most amazing colonial complexes in the New World.

In Habana Vieja, visit the Plaza de Catedral where you can find one of the oldest churches in the Americas as well as the Centro Wilfredo Lam, an excellent art gallery that showcases both local and leading modern painters. The Plaza de Armas, is home to one of the most majestic buildings in Cuba, the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, which was once the presidential palace. Also here is the oldest fortress in the Americas, the Castillo de la Real Fuerza. In the Plaza de San Francisco, you will find the Museo del Ron or the Rum Museum, while a visit to the Plaza Vieja is a must as it is one of the most interesting public spaces in the city.

Also in Havana don’t forget to visit the first aidfirapitolio NacioCnal, which is very similar to the US Capitol Building, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, the Museo de la Revolucion and the Vedado, which is a forest reserve int eh city. Here you will find a park dedicated to John Lennon as well as the Plaza de la Revolucion, which is from President Castro often addresses the Cuban public on important occasions.

In Vinales there are a number of museums and gardens worth exploring as well as the Gran Caverna de Santo Tomas, which is the largest cave system in Cuba. Also nearby is Maria Gorda, one of the best beaches to come diving in the country.

Varadero maybe Cuba’s top beach destination, but it still offers travelers plenty of places to visit and explore. You can find an excellent museum in the city as well as a fantastic park.

In Santa Clara, a visit to the monument of Che Guevara is a must and don’t forget to see the Monumento a la Toma del Tren Blindado, where Guevara captured an armored train of Batista troops. There are a number of museums, monuments and sites in Santa Clara linked to the Cuban Revolution, and this city is a great place for history buffs to visit. Nearby you can find the town of Remedios, nicknamed as one of the prettiest towns in Cuba.

Trinidad is one of Cuba’s most popular destinations as you can find a number of wonderful old colonial structures out here. Visit the Museo Historico Municipal, the Museo Romantico and the Museo Nacional de la Lucha Conta Bandidos while you are here.

In eastern Cuba, the most important city to see is Santiago de Cuba. In this city you will find numerous interesting places to visit including churches, parks and museums. Visit the old neighborhood of Vista Alegra here as well as the Santa Ifigenia cemetery to see the graves of many Cuban heroes like Jose Marti.

Baracoa should be the last city on your tour of Cuba and is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty around you. The first Spanish settlement in Cuba, this city offers many interesting places to visit and enjoy including the fascinating Museo Arqueologico Cueva del Parasio.
