Diving in Dominica

Diving in Dominica

The diving in Dominica is world class and is considered by many as the best in the Caribbean. A first-rate dive destination, this small island in the West Indies attracts divers from all over the globe with its incredible underwater landscape. Here you can find steep drop offs to dive from, as well as underwater volcanic arches, caves, caverns and pinnacles.

The best place to go diving in Dominica is Soufriere Bay. A dramatic diving experience, here you can find deep walls, gullies, chasms, pinnacles and massive boulders to dive through. Scotts Head Drop-off is a shallow coral reef here that abruptly drops off some 46 meters straight down to reveal a huge wall of brightly colored soft corals and huge tube sponges with numerous schools of fish swimming here including barracuda, boga and Bermuda chub. West of here is the Pinnacle, where you can find a series of caves, arches and walls to explore. The waters here home to cute parrot fish, snappers, barracudas and stingrays.

For snorkelers and novice divers, the Soufriere Pinnacle is a great place to go diving. Here you can find a wide variety of vibrant corals as well as thousands of brightly colored tropical fish. Another easy dive site on Dominica is Champagne. Some popular dive sites on the island are Castaways Reef, Grande Savane, Rodney’s Rock, Toucari Bay and a number of ship wrecks near Canefield. For the more adventurous diver, the northern coast of the island offers plenty of dive sites to explore.

If you are interested in diving in Dominica, it is well worth it as the diving here is fantastic. On the island you can find a number of dive operators that offer dive tours and excursions as well as diving certification courses for new and beginner divers. Many hotels also offer single day and multi-day dive vacation packages.
