Dominican Republic Nightlife

Dominican Republic Nightlife

The Dominican Republic is known throughout the Caribbean for its superb nightlife. Here you can party the night away dancing until dawn to hot Latin rhythms and tunes. Merengue is the national music here and from the moment that you step off the plane to where you go across the country, you will hear merengue music being played everywhere. The capital Santo Domingo is one of the best places to party in the country.

In Santo Domingo, head east in town to the Malecon officially known as Av George Washington, which sits along the waterfront and is home to some of the best hotels, casinos and nightlife in the Dominican Republic. If you want to party in Santo Domingo the best time to come here is during Carnaval in February, when the entire city and the entire country turns into one huge party. Carnaval ends with a big festival in Santo Domingo with every one dressing up in costumes. The Merengue Festival is also a great time to visit the city. Held in July and August, some of the best musicians in the country come to Santo Domingo to showoff their musical talents.

One of the best nightclubs in Santo Domingo has to be Guacara Taina. This club is one of the most unique nightclubs in the world as it is located inside a bat cave. It can accommodate up to 2000 people and is a great place to hear live merengue and salsa music. You can party here most weekend ends until about 5 am.

Most hotels on the Malecon have their own nightclubs, the popular ones being Jubilee at the Renaissance Jaragua and the clubs at the Intercontinental and the El Napolitano. These nightclubs and discos play a mix of modern tracks and merengue music and although they open by about 9 pm, the parties here don’t start until after midnight. Most clubs a higher admission fee when a band is in attendance at the nightclub.

If you are the gambling type then visit some of the many casinos located in Santo Domingo. Most of them are part of the hotels on the Malecon. The Intercontinental, the Hotel Santo Domingo and the El Napolitano all have some excellent casinos to play at. Most casinos are open til 4 am.
