The climate of Haiti tends to remain hot and humid with temperatures varying throughout the day and year and most of the tourist are found either on the beaches or enjoying water sports. While in Haiti you can find plenty to do, from sailing to various water sports, hiking or trekking the country or just immersing yourself in the history of the country while visiting the museums.

The best way to get around Haiti is via the public transportation. It offers the best opportunity for you not just for getting around the island but also to explore it.

The Kyona and Ibo beaches are popular for water sports like swimming, spear fishing, sailing, snorkeling, water-skiing and boomba racing in dugout canoes. Or you can go for golf at the 9-hole golf course at the Pétionville Club. There are tennis courts in various clubs like the El Rancho, Ibo Beach, Kaloa Beach, Pétionville Club, Ibo Lake and the Royal Haitian hotels. Great hiking opportunities are also available at the national parks of Visite, La Vistie and Parc Macaya in Haiti. La Gonâve is popular as a great fishing location.

You can also sail from Port-au-Prince to the various beaches and all around the island. Glass bottomed boat trips are also available over the Sand Cay Reef and various cargo ships can take you from one port to another.

Shopping in Haiti can be lots of fun. Bargaining is highly recommended at the famous Iron Market. Items ranging from painted fabrics, straw hats, carvings, jewelry, cigars, leather goods and foodstuff etc are available in both good and bad quality. In Port-au-Prince there are a good number of shops and boutiques that sell all kinds of local and imported items.

A great place for fun under the sun, Haiti has much to offer not just when the sun is out but also after it sets. The nightlife is generally centered on a few local hotels and most offer weekend entertainments. With the various flavor of dances and music available, you get a taste of the local culture.

Haiti offers some finest specialties ranging from French to African cuisines and tropical flavors. French wine is also available in good restaurants. The island has much to offer in drinks and deserts, from rum to brandy and fresh coconut ice cream to tropical fruits. The Barbancourt Rum Distillery offers not just great rum but you can also catch some local history while touring the distillery.

The nightlife in Haiti is exciting and full of music. Dance to the beat of the African drum music or the modern Western music. A few major hotels also offer voodoo or folklore performances as a main attraction. Saturday nights are usually dance nights and hotels stay most up-to-date with information regarding the latest in the local nightlife.
