Things to do in Martinique

Things to do in Martinique

There are plenty of things to do in Martinique. The best way to enjoy the island is to visit the many beautiful beaches found here. The beaches in the north have grey or black sand, while in the south the shorelines are white or a light golden brown. Many of Martinique’s best beaches are located in the southern end of the island between Grant Anse and Les Salines. The waters here are wonderful with some good swimming and snorkeling in this area as well. Most dive shops on the southern beaches offer snorkeling gear for rent at affordable prices.

Diving is also quite good in Martinique, with the town of ST Pierre offering some of the islands top dive sites. Here you can find several ship wrecks to explore as well as beautiful coral reef that are abound with a wealth of marine life. In the northeast of the island is Cap Enrage offers some great undersea caves to go diving in. ideal for experienced divers, these caves play host to many different kinds of marine life including sponges, coral, urchins, and hundreds of brightly colored tropical fish.

Grand Anse is a good diving spot for novice or beginner divers, while Rocher du Diamant also has some great underwater caves to explore. However, the diving here is meant for advanced divers.

If you enjoy hiking, then you will certainly have fun in Martinique with numerous trekking trials to explore. There are both easy and tough tails for hikers, so be sure to find out where you are heading from the locals. One of the most popular hikes on the island has to be from the ruins of the Cheteau Dubuc to Presqu’ile de Caravelle. If you are in the mood for a more challenging hike, there are a few rough trails that lead up the northern and southern sides of Mont Pelee.

Horseback riding is also popular in Martinique especially in the Trois Ilets area.
