Surfing in Puerto Rico
The surfing in Puerto Rico is some of
the best in world attracting famous surfers from all over the planet
with its pristine water conditions and huge swells and breaks. Ranked
as one of the best places to come surfing in the Americas during
the winter, Puerto Rico has been holding the world surfing championships
at Rincon since 1968.
For those who are based in San Juan for
a few days and don’t want to stray too far away, head eastward
from Isla Verde, where you will find a number of surfing spots to
enjoy. However, if it is the big waves, breaks and swells that you
are after, you will need to visit places like Rincon and Isabela,
both of which play host to numerous world class surfing competitions
every year. Rincon and Isabela lie in the northwest of the island
and are locate nearby one another with several surf spots in between,
where you can ride some awesome waves. In Rincon, you will find an
excellent surf shop that sells and rents everything from body suits
to surf boards, to suit all kinds of water conditions.
Windsurfing is also growing in popularity in Puerto Rico. Having played host to the Ray Ban Windsurfing World Cup in 1989, Puerto Rico is now fast becoming a popular windsurfing destination for surfers from all over the globe. Boogie boarding in Rincon is another popular activity in Puerto Rico especially with children and young adults.
