Things to do in Puerto Rico
There are plenty of things to do in Puerto
Rico to keep you busy for days on end. From a whole host of
water sports to visiting art galleries and hitting the casinos,
the wealth of activities in Puerto Rico will leave you amazed. Aside
from sightseeing the many historical and cultural landmarks in San
Juan, Puerto Rico is best known all over the world for its excellent
snorkeling and diving. Here underwater you can find a wide variety
of marine life as well as stunning coral reefs, coral caverns, grottos,
overhangs and tunnels to explore.
The best diving and snorkeling in Puerto Rico can be found off the islands of Vieques and Culebra with some top notch diving also available just off the mainland. Fajardo, La Parguera and Rincon all offer some great dive spots for novice, intermediate and expert divers. Anchor Reef, Patti’s Reef, Blue Reef, Sail Rock, Whale Rock, Cayo Lobos, Palomenitos, the Wall and Desecheo, are all superb diving hotspots with great underwater visibility, warm water temperatures and a plethora of marine life to discover.
Kayaking and sailing are also popular things to do in Puerto Rico as well. The semi protected waters off Puerto Rico provide sailors with the ideal conditions for racing and cruising, with trade winds here blowing out of the east nearly every day of the year. The largest marina on the island is Puerto del Rey Marina with over 750 slips.
Surfing is also highly popular in Puerto
Rico with Rincon ranking as one of the best places to ceom surf
in the winter in the Americas. Both Rincon and Isabela host numerous
surfing competitions each year.
For those who are interested in some land adventures, there are some good hiking and trekking opportunities in Puerto Rico also. The national rainforest at El Yunque offers some excellent hiking trails to explore. You can also visit the Guanica Biosphere Reserve for some good trekking. This dry forest is a rare sanctuary and is home to more than 700 varieties of plants and 40 bird species.
