Places to See in Saba

Places to See in Saba With a total land area of 5 sq miles, the most unusual thing about Saba is the five completely different temperate zones found on the island. Steep cliffs, grassy meadows, green hills, rainforests and even a cloud forest can be found here, giving the adventurous tourist plenty to see on land as well as underwater. And while the diving around Saba is fantastic, there are a number of places to see in Saba on land as well.

In the main town of Windwardside, you can visit the amazing Harry L Johnson Museum, which is home to an extremely gorgeous and beautifully landscaped garden, where you can spot numerous flowers including the national flower of Saba, the black-eyed Susan. On display at the museum are many Arawak artifacts, in addition to lots of historical relics from the colonial era.

The JoBean Designs Art Glass Studio in town is also worth a visit for its excellent half day classes on the art of glass blowing for novices and experts alike. JoBean is a celebrated artist and her pieces are even owned by the Netherlands Queen Beatrix. To see some other local artistic talent, visit the Breadfruit Gallery, where you can see a number of up and coming artists on Saba.

In the capital The Bottom, you will mostly find administrative and government buildings as well as the police station. The Saba Medical College is also located here. Fort Bay is the main port of entry into Saba and is where the office of the Saba Marine Park is located. Here you will also find the region’s only hyperbaric chamber.

Ladder Bay lies just west of The Bottom and is wonderful to visit for its amazing views, while for those who want to have some fun in the sun, visit Saba’s only beach, Well’s Bay. A dark brown sandy beach, you will find plenty of locals also coming here to enjoy themselves. In the northeast of the bay is Torrens Point, where you can enjoy some good snorkeling as many tropical fish gather here.
