Nevis to enjoy a whole host of activities and water sports. And
with each beach more beautiful than the next, you will have a hard
time choosing where to relax and have some fun in the sun. The best
beaches on Saint Kitts are found at Frigate
Bay and Friar’s Bay. Some lovely beaches can also be found
in the southeast of the peninsula. On St Nevis, Pinney’s Beach
is an amazing retreat as it is often empty and is backed by tall coconut
trees.
The diving off St Kitts and Nevis is also great with some beautiful
expansive marine reefs. Here you can spot a wide variety of marine
life including many kinds of sponges and corals, rays, barracudas,
sea turtles, sea fans, eels and nurse sharks. The most popular dive
spot is at Sandy Point Bay near Brimstone Hill, where an array of
brightly colored corals can be found as well as many stunning kinds
of reef fish. A handful of wreck dives can also be spotted here.
Turtle Beach also offers some good diving as well. On Nevis, Monkey
Shoals near Oualie Beach is a good dive spot, with some excellent
caves to be explored in the western end of the island. Here you
can find stunning coral grottoes and lava tubes.
If you are interested in other water sports, the windsurfing at Oualie
Bay is a great place for beginners and intermediate surfers. The winds
here are strong and the water is nice and shallow. To rent a Hobie
cat or Sunfish head to Frigate Bay. Here you can also enjoy some waterskiing
as well as kayaking and boogie boarding. The sailing and snorkeling
in this part of the island is also quite good.
Hiking is another popular activity in St Kitts and Nevis with plenty
of excellent trekking trails to explore. It is however advisable
to retain the services of a guide as many of these trials are not
well defined at times and it is easy to get lost in the islands
mountainous interiors.
