Things to do in Saint Lucia
There are numerous activities to enjoy on the beautiful island paradise
of Saint Lucia. All the beaches here are
open to the public, with some of the most beautiful beaches found
in the northwest of the island near Pigeon
Point, Rodney Bay and Choc Bay. There are some wonderful swimming
opportunities out here as well as some good snorkeling.
If you are interested in diving, then coming to St Lucia is well
worth your while as there are numerous caves, marine reefs and underwater
drop-offs to explore. Most of the diving is done on the southern
and western sides of Saint Lucia. Anse Chastanet boasts some of
the best reef diving with the waters here designated a marine park
and home to a plethora of sea life including many brightly colored
corals and sponges as well as a wide variety of tropical fish. The
snorkeling here is also world class.
A popular dive spot in Saint Lucia has to be the Keyhole Pinnacles.
Here you can find four marine mountains to explore. Rising some
1000 feet from the ocean floor, these peaks stop just below the
surface of the water and home to many beautiful fans, hard and soft
corals as a wide variety of sea sponges. When you come diving here
don’t forget to bring a camera for some great underwater shots.
If you are interested in wreck diving, the Lesleen near Anse Cochon
is a great dive. You can also try some excellent snorkeling out here
as well. The beaches near Petit Piton and Gros Piton also offer some
good snorkeling opportunities with a wide variety of marine life to
see.
Hiking is another popular activity in St Lucia with three main trekking trials
into the mountainous interior of the island. Each of these trials
is different and offers some great views. The three trails are;
the Barre de L’isle Trail, which is a rainforest hike; the
Des Cartiers Rainforest Trail; which provides some great views of
the rare Saint Lucia parrot and the Edmond Forest Reserve Trail
that offers some wonderful views of Mt Gimie, the highest peak on
Saint Lucia.
Horseback riding, golf, tennis and squash are all popular things
to do on Saint Luca, while there is also some wonderful windsurfing
to enjoy. You can try windsurfing at Reduit Beach, or if you are
interested in some really challenging conditions head to Fort Vieux,
where there are strong winds and the water is rough.
