Saint Martin

Saint Martin Saint Martin/Sint Maarten is one of the smallest landmasses to be shared in the world. While Sint Maarten is part of the Netherlands Antilles, Saint Martin is a French territory, whose capital is the town of Marigot. Nicknamed the “Friendly Island” the beaches on Saint Martin are truly superb with many gourmet French restaurants and excellent resorts to be found here, all making this an excellent vacation destination.

One of the main reasons for the popularity of this tiny island in the Caribbean is that it is easy to get to. Add to this, inexpensive accommodations, gorgeous beaches and an energetic nightlife and you have one of the best places to have some fun, all the while still maintaining a kind of ‘Europe in the Caribbean’ feel.

Even though French is the official language here, English and Spanish are widely spoken and understood throughout Saint Martin. The US dollar is the currency of choice and with plenty of duty-free shopping to enjoy, this island offers something for everyone.

Marigot, the capital, has a distinctly French flavor with several top notch restaurants and some first-rate shopping to enjoy. With the main harbor front located here along with the ferry terminal to Anguilla and St Barths, this town is a hub dub of activity. Most of the shopping in Marigot is located along the Rue du General de Gaulle with many famous boutiques and small shops sitting side by side.

St Martin is also known for its bevy of beautiful beaches. Baie Rogue is a wonderful place to go swimming, while the nearby Plum Bay offers some excellent sunbathing opportunities as well. For the more risqué, visit Orient Beach and the Club Orient Naturist Resort. A nudist resort and the only one of its kind on the island, here guests can enjoy a wide range of activities from water sports to fine dining and sailing.
