Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago

The twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago are probably two of the most popular and well known vacation destinations in the Caribbean. Famous for its beautiful sun kissed beaches and party atmosphere, this dual island nation in the West Indies has the distinction of being one of the most colorful places in the region to visit. Here calypso and soca music can be heard in the streets, with plenty of beautiful resorts to relax in once you are done having fun.

Encompassing a total land area of 5,128 sq km, the islands of Trinidad and Tobago sit just off the coast of Venezuela and the South American continent. Trinidad is the larger of the two islands at 4,828 sq km, while Tobago is just 300 sq km in size. Rich in oil and gas reserves, this tiny West Indian nation also has the richest and most varied plant and animal life in the Caribbean. Here you can spot over 430 species of birds, 600 species of butterflies and over 100 different kinds of mammals including agoutis, howler monkeys and armadillos. Both islands are also home to lush dense rainforests. Tobago sits some 19 km northeast of Trinidad, with some of the most beautiful and secluded beaches in the entire region.

With the capital Port of Spain located here, Trinidad is the ideal place for those who are looking to have some fun. Rich in culture, this island has a charm of its own with one of the best Carnivals in the Caribbean to enjoy. The music scene here is lively and vibrant with the people warm and friendly, welcoming you with open arms. Here you will find churches sitting next to temples and mosques, making Trinidad an ethnically diverse island with a uniquely distinct culture.

The tiny island of Tobago is delightfully relaxed and laidback, making it the perfect place to kickback and take in the tropical sunshine. Life here moves is a much slower pace than in Trinidad with some of the most stunning beaches to enjoy. The snorkeling and diving Trinidad is also world class, with bird watching and hiking opportunities available for the active soul. Small enough to explore on your own, touring Tobago can be a very rewarding experience.
