Getting Around the Turks and Caicos
A divers paradise, the Turk and Caicos
is a must visit for any diving enthusiast. To enter into the country
all visitors must hold a valid passport. No visas are required for
US, Canadian, British and most western nationals. There are three
international airports in the Turks and Caicos, with most international
flights landing at the Providenciales International Airport. Grand
Turk and South Caicos also have airports as well. Air Turks and
Caicos is the island’s national carrier and flies regularly
to Miami and Nassau. Bahamasair and Air Jamaica also fly here as
well.
Getting around the Turks and Caicos is pretty simple and straightforward.
Air Turks and Caicos and Skyking both offer regular flights from Providenciales
to and from Grand Turk and North Caicos regularly. Air Turks and Caicos
also flies to Middle Caicos and Salt Cay frequently. Skyking offers
flights to South Caicos. Another easy way to get around the islands
is by ferry service which runs trips from Grand Turk to Salt Cay.
On each island one of the most cost effective ways of getting
around is by bicycle. Cheap and convenient, there are plenty of
bike rentals shops all over the Turks and Caicos and is a great
way to take in the beautiful landscape. Public bus services are
limited on the islands to just Providenciales. Taxis can be found
on most islands, but be sure to negotiate a price before you get
on board.
The best to get around most of the islands in the Turks and Caicos
is by car, motorcycle or scooter. Pretty affordable, your own rental
transportation allows you travel around on your own exploring the
wealth of beauty these islands have to offer. Driving
here is on the left hand side of the road and all you require to rent
a car is a valid driver’s license. Keep in mind though that
a mandatory government tax of US$ 15 is imposed on all car rentals.
