Things to do in the Turks and Caicos
One of the best things to do in the Turks
and Caicos is diving. The diving here is truly superb with numerous
dive spots located all over the place. One of the best diving zones
in the Turks and Caicos has to be at Salt Cay. Here one can find
beautiful unspoiled reefs, exhilarating vertical walls and an abundance
of marine life to enjoy. The waters here are warm and crystal clear
offering some of the best underwater diving conditions on the planet.
Home to a multitude of dazzling tropical fish, here divers can
spot eagle rays, tiger groupers, butterfly fish and triggerfish,
while in the winters these waters turn into the habitat of migrating
humpback whales. The whales appear in December and can be spotted
all the way up to March. Just south of Salt Cay is the shipwreck
of the HMS Endymion, which offers some excellent snorkeling opportunities.
A couple of other dive sites worth exploring at Salt Cay include
Wanda Lust and Kelly’s Folly.
In the Caicos, some good diving and snorkeling can be done at French
Cay, West Caicos and Fort George Cay. Dax Canyon, Rock‘n’Roll,
Shark Hotel, Amphitheatre and Coral Stairway are some awe-inspiring
dive sites in the Caicos Islands.
If you are interested in sportfishing and bonefishing there are a number of boat charters and tour operators on the islands. Some excellent bonefishing can be done at Pine Cay and along the eastern shores of North Caicos.
Other popular activities in the Turks and Caicos also include parasailing, horseback riding, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing, with most resorts on the islands offering tennis as well.
The Turks and Caicos is also an eco-tourist haven with more than
30 protected areas having been set up to safeguard the delicate ecosystems
found here. The Princess Alexandra National Park, the Chalk Sound
National Park, the East Bay Islands National Park, the Three Mary
Cays National Park and the West Caicos Marine National park are all
worth a visit while you are here.
